Organizations for Interprofessional Collaboration

Interprofessional Education Collaborative: Composed of fifteen US health profession education associations of schools of the health professions, IPEC promotes organizational efforts that advance interprofessional learning experiences.
National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education: The National Center offers and supports evaluation, research, data and evidence that ignites the field of interprofessional practice and education and leads to better care, added value and healthier communities.
World Health Organization Department of Human Resources for Health: The mission of the WHO Department of Human Resources for Health is to further community and global health through the development and dissemination of high-quality, equitable healthcare.
Institute for Healthcare Improvement: IHI is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of improvement science, person and family-centered care, patient safety, quality cost and value in healthcare delivery, and the achievement of the Triple Aim.
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality: Stationed within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the mission of AHRQ is to ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, available, and affordable healthcare on a nationwide scale. TeamStepps is an AHRQ patient safety training resource.
American Interprofessional Education Collaborative (AIHC): The AIHC offers the Leadership Webinar Series, a forum for leaders committed to reshaping systems through showcasing significant transformational interprofessional education and collaborative practice efforts.
MedEdPORTAL Interprofessional (IPE) Portal: This portal is designed to foster the identification, development and deployment of educational resources aimed at supporting team-based or collaborative care essential to training an interprofessional workforce.
Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation: Founded by Kate Macy Ladd in memory of her father, prominent philanthropist Josiah Macy Jr., the Foundation supports projects that broaden and improve health professional education.
The Health Professions Accreditors Collaborative (HPAC) provides a forum for members to cooperate in areas of mutual interest to ensure that accreditors’ standards, policies and procedures support and prepare graduates for contemporary practice as part of interprofessional teams. Centre for the Advancement of Interprofessional Education (CAIPE): This center provides several resources for interprofessional education, including reports, articles, publications, presentations, and online education resources.
The Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative (CIHC) has been working for more than a decade to strengthen the knowledge base and ​practice for collaborative, patient-centred practice.
Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education: A collaboration across the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), Joint Accreditation approves continuing professional education activities, designed by and for interprofessional groups, intended to improve interprofessional collaborative practice.

Conferences

  • Collaborating Across Borders: Co-hosted by the AIHC and CIHC, CAB provides opportunity for the scholarly exchange of evidence-based models and outcomes related to interprofessional practice and education.
  • Interprofessional Education Collaborative Institutes (Events): IPEC hosts annual Spring and Fall Institutes for professional development in many different areas of interprofessional education and collaborative practice.
  • Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education: A collaboration across the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), Joint Accreditation approves continuing professional education activities, designed by and for interprofessional groups, intended to improve interprofessional collaborative practice.
  • National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education Summit: The National Center provides an annual Summit to explore strategies to bridge the gap between how current and future health professionals create people-centered and outcomes focused teams to learn together and develop real-world skills.
  • The Jewell and Carl F. Emswiller Interprofessional Symposium is an annual event that provides a forum for health professional students, educators, practitioners, researchers, and policy-makers who have the power to improve health and wellness for individual patients, communities, and populations through innovation in interprofessional practice.
  • The Jefferson Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education hosts an annual conference Interprofessional Care for the 21st Century. The purpose of this conference is to showcase scholarly work and works in progress related to interprofessional education and/or collaborative practice.
